India and Indian in Nobel - 1

Nobel Prize has completed 117 years , yet 584 of this have been given to 923 people , 684 of these people are combined from USA , UK , Germany and France , which is nearly 3/4 of total Nobel Laureates . Out of 30 universities , whose alma-meter have received Nobel , 28 are in these four countries . 22 are of American alone . Only 15 Nobel Laureates are black , 12 are Muslim but they are not regular blacks . These all numbers are enough to prove that Organization which gives Nobel Prize is not democratic in nature , although it does not promise to be so , but there is clear distinction that Whites have major contributions in this world , at least after 1901 when first Nobel was given .

Where does India stands in terms of Nobel Prize , a country with highest number of women , unemployed , youth , tradition verities , language , castes , religion , students , universities , schools and so on . There are roughly 15 Nobel laureates who have strong connection with India . Should I say ,' there are only 15 ' ? And India should have won more Nobles . Saying it is quite illogical , in others words our logic is promptly defined by our nature of politics here in India , 'Vote-Bank' . China have more population but still they have managed to get 10 only , despite the fact that their economy size , budget on research is clearly far ahead of India . Japan is only country in Asian continent which have more Noble Laureates than India .

Noble is clearly for contribution in humankind . But contributors like Mahatma Gandhi , Pt. J. L. Nehru , Sashi Tharur , Narendra Modi , Indira Gandhi , B. R. Ambedekar who have wide domain of contribution regarding maintaining peace has been kept apart from list of Noble Laureates . But selectors amazed Indians when they chosen  Kailash Satyrthi for peace . But amazement was one way , because US and west world had recognized Kailash and his works far before 2014 , in fact he have more recognition in the west than in India . Irony is that he is not conferred  Bharat Ratna , even after 4 years of receiving Nobel . So , the outcome is , we together with our India power-houses do not recognize any work until it got space in wider public domain .

Research and Innovation are clearly related to GDP , per capita income and education budget . Nobel in Medicines , Chemistry , Physics and Mathematics has clear connection with these things . For example we look at the annual budget of a university with most number of Nobel Laureate alma-meter , Harvard had 4.5 billion $ in 2015 excluding third party funding and alumni donation which is quite more than the combined budget of all the IITs and IIMs of India , viz. 1.08 billion$ in 2018-19 . On the other hand US has about 4500 higher education institutes and India have more than 35000 . Although , such large number of institutions are required for the vast population , even this is proved less for the same . But where does budget goes ? Forget about budget , many of the prestigious university do not have complete accommodation facility for their students and teachers . They are unable to manage quality food on a reasonable price . Apart from that library-laboratory facilities and rules are usually obstacles .

Despite creating creativity student often fall in the trap of caste – religion debate in the campuses and inserted into dirty – politics . Even requirement of teachers and professor are generally based on favoritism . Researchers become pet of professor , instead of research . In such situation even to think of Noble Prize is like winning it on first place .

Arguments may come that whether excellence is compromised because of these things ? Let's look at the background of Nobel Laureates in field of medicine , physics , mathematics and chemistry . C. V. Raman did it in British India , he was paternal uncle of another Nobel Laureates Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar . Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar's professional life was based in US . Amrity  Sen for economics , apart from India has B.A , M.A. and PhD from University of Cambridge .

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan made it for chemistry but his PhD was in University of Ohio . And Hargowind Khorana did the miracle in British period . I'm not favoring British period over India's independence but at that time migration for education purpose was comparatively cheap and less challenging than now . So , excellence was easily allowed to flourish their way forward . Even M.K. Gandhi and Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru , former the three time and later was 11 time nominee for Noble Peace Prize , had gained their knowledge and segmented their value – speech on foreign soil .

Nobel committee still feels that Peace Prize without Mahatma Gandhi  is matter of compromise . The had posted an article regarding that , 'Mahatma the missing Laureate' .

Nobel committee has clearly shown a biased nature towards Indian Peace keeper . They ignored them during colonization , because it could have a moral set back for the then British empire , as China has to face today when Aan San Su Ki and Dalai Lama have received Peace Prize .

Even after decolonization , every Prime Minister of India have been missing Laureate , because India is surrounded by a destitute and penniless like Pakistan and a country with Imperial – mindset in modern world viz. China . It is quite challenging to keep peace in such a situation where two naughty players are set free .

Current Prime Minister of India , honorable Narendra Modi , he is also a perfect laureate , not because he is PM , but because sustaining peace after 2002 in Gujrat . Gujrat has gone through countless series of riots , but it lasted in 2002 .

Although , time has come when India and India(of any type) will face either rain of Nobel or a pace in race . Recently Raghuram Rajan made it in last 6 for Economics . India is climbing not only the economy ladder but after 2015 it has continuously increased it Global Innovation Index . But this is also not unusual because India has highest number of graduate in every flied whether it is arts , science or technology . Apart from this India is blessed with large domestic market . But this positive sign can go higher and can be translated into Nobel if it overcome with challenges like Political stability and safety , over all education , environment performances .

India , which expert in recognizing a talent after it goes west or waste , like half of the Bharat Ratna awardee  are conferred with it after his death and whenever anyone receive noble we try to relate them with India in either way . In beaning , I have mentioned about Nobel Laureate who have strong connection to India but sadly only 4 out of them can be called Indian without any if and but . Out of these four , God knows which day Amrity Sen will accept US or UK citizenship . Still he is a US green card holder and an Indian citizen . But it becomes a matter of gossip when he return to India for couple of days . He had withdrawn his name from Nalanda Unversity for the second term of chancellor .

But Nobel Selectors will not do mistakes like India has done . They will confer Indian in field of mathematics , physics , chemistry and medicines in coming days .
